Herpes Warning Signs Visible on the Penis

Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease that is contracted by a person who is infected with the herpes simplex virus. It is an extremely contagious disease that affects one in every four sexually active adult. If accorded with proper treatment, the disease may be cured within two weeks for men (it may take longer than two weeks for women because the infection affects the internal vaginal walls, as opposed to the exposed penis of the males). This disease may be transmitted through vaginal, oral and anal sex.

There are two known strains of the virus, HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is orally acquired and affects the mouth area. Individuals infected with HSV-1 can transmit the virus through kissing. While HSV-2 affects the genital areas and is acquired through genital contact. The HSV-2 is responsible for the visible symptoms in a man’s penis.

It is easy to spot symptoms of herpes on penis. They are very visible and can cause pain and discomfort to the afflicted male. The symptoms may appear as soon as two to ten days after contact with the virus. The herpes virus is very direct. It affects the areas of the genitals where there was direct infection from the virus. Since the penis is the organ that is directly in contact with the male’s sexual partner, the symptoms of the disease will appear on the penis itself.

The initial stages of herpes shows an outbreak of small, pimple-like bumps that will later develop into blisters filled with some fluid. Upon reaching this stage, the blisters can burst and become open sores, which are the primary signs of herpes. Other manifestations of the disease are swelling of the testicles and tenderness when they are touched. The penis may also release foul-smelling discharges in some cases.

A herpes penis in its full-blown stage has open sores and breaks in the skin which can be very itchy. The patient will feel pain when the sores and lesions become in contact with clothing and urine.

Herpes may recur if there will be another sexual encounter with another person who is infected with the virus. The succeeding recurrences will last for a shorter period of time though, because the body will have already developed antibodies that will help in fighting the HSV-1 or HSV2.
